Pause Diet – An Interesting Concept
A few days ago I came across the pause diet. It’s not really a diet program, just more of a simple concept. I thought I’d post about it becuase I really like the concept and I think for some people it may assist them in controlling their weight.
The pause diet has 3 simple rules, here’s the quote from the website:
So this is basically the “pause diet”.
- Pause before you buy / serve yourself something
- Pause before your next spoonful or bite
- Pause halfway through what you are eating
Simple eh? The pause diet does 2 things. First, it makes you think about what you are eating. You think about what you’re buying from the supermarket as well as before you actually eat it. For some people, pausing before they eat that piece of cake may be enough to remember what their goals are and why they should not be eating it.
Second, it makes you stop eating half way through. This also makes you think about if you really need to keep eating and depending on the length of the pause, it may help by stopping you from eating too mush. It takes around 20 minutes for your brain to acknowledge that you’re full. If you’re a fast eater like me, you can eat a lot in 20 minutes! Pausing in the middle of the meal can make you remember this fact, and make you ask yourself if you’ve really had enough.
Obviously there is so much more to losing weight than this, but it’s an interesting concept.

This is a great idea! I’ve found for myself that when I really stop and think about what I’m doing when I’m about to buy a candy bar or something I’ll have a much better chance of talking myself out of it. Its those sudden impulses that get me!
